Unifying Dexcom's design language

The Challenge

As Dexcom's product portfolio multiplied, so did the risk of fragmented brand and user experiences across digital products, marketing touch points, physical hardware, partner integrations, and internal platforms.

Without a unified design system to govern how the brand expressed itself across every surface, the UX team faced growing inefficiency, inconsistent quality, and a foundation that couldn't scale at the speed the business demanded. The design system wasn't a nice-to-have, it was infrastructure for sustaining category leadership.

The Approach

FreshForm was brought in as a strategic partner to the Dexcom UX team, providing deep expertise in global design systems at a moment when the system's foundational decisions still had time to be made correctly.

Working directly with UX leadership and a cross-functional team spanning experience design, research, and strategy, FreshForm structured the engagement as a series of focused two-week sprints, moving from stakeholder testing and analysis through template development, governance framework design, and ultimately an MVP.

The scope was intentionally broad, covering digital product components, sub-brand visual identities for multiple sub brands, voice and tone, partner guidelines, instructional design standards, and physical product design principles, ensuring the system could serve every team that touched the Dexcom brand.

The Outcome

The design system launched with a governance model and architecture built to scale alongside Dexcom's multi-year growth targets, giving the UX team a platform to extend their impact well beyond their functional organization.
